I was shopping at Home Depot recently when my boyfriend walked up to my shopping cart holding some wooden letters he had found. They were a J and an L for Juan and Lauren (those are our names, for those of you who don’t know).
The COVID-19 quarantine was just beginning, and I knew I would be facing some raging boredom very soon. Plus, I thought it was adorable that he picked these out for us. So I purchased the letters and than ran to Target for a few other supplies to make this easy but stylish home décor craft.
(By the way, all of these supplies can be purchased on Amazon.)
Note: My supplies photo shows super glue, but I don’t recommend using that for these letters. I ended up getting it all over my fingers, and it was horrible! I had to order a hot glue gun on Amazon to finish this project up.
Step 1: Using the foam brushes and your favorite paint color (I chose a steely blue-grey color), paint the wooden letters. You may need a few layers of paint before they are completely covered. Let dry completely.
Step 2 (optional): Using the sandpaper, lightly sand the edges of the painted letters for a weathered look.
Step 3: Take the greenery (I got mine from Target) and pull it apart into smaller pieces. Mine came apart easily, but you may need scissors or wire cutters to cut yours. Arrange the greenery on the letters as desired. I used the wire to twist branches together so that the sprigs of greenery had leaves on both sides.
Step 4: Heat up the hot glue gun and use hot glue to affix the greenery onto the letters.
Step 5: As a finishing touch, I cut a few silk flowers from their stems and attached them to the letters with hot glue. This hid the unfinished edges of the greenery.
Step 6: Put your finished letters on display. Aren’t they beautiful?
