I’ll be honest – I don’t shop on Amazon as much as the average person. Yes, it’s convenient and generally affordable. There are a variety of things available to be delivered right to your doorstep. But my love of thrifting runs so deep that I rarely buy anything brand new. Most of the items in my home are secondhand, and I’m proud of that fact. I think it makes my home look more unique and one of a kind. When I examine my best Amazon purchases over the past few years, the number of items I’ve bought is admittedly a short list.
Still, there are reasons to occasionally buy new items. Sometimes when you are thrifting, you can’t find exactly what you are looking for. An example of this is curtains – it’s hard to find a full set of curtains if you’re looking to outfit a room with more than one window. And sometimes, there are certain pieces that you would just rather buy new, such as bedding or pillows.
As I looked back on my Amazon purchases in preparation for this post, I realized that I truly have only bought a few home décor items on Amazon over the years. These purchases date all the way back to 2020. However, these are all quality items that I would recommend to you if you’re looking for something on this list. For my bedroom makeover, I was on the hunt for some light-blocking blue velvet curtains to help pull everything together. These blackout curtains were perfect! They keep the room dark and are made of quality, thick material. I wanted my curtains to go all the way to the ceiling, and mine was at an odd height. I had to purchase curtains larger than what I needed and hem them to size. They came out beautifully, and as a bonus I now have some extra fabric to use for other projects.
I liked them so much that when I needed a velvet curtain for my living room, I ordered a berry colored one from the same seller.
This silverware set is my all-time favorite Amazon purchase! I ordered two of these stainless-steel sets to serve eight (one set serves four). They have held up well – I use these whenever I’m having guests over for dinner, or for the occasional in-home date night. Per the recommendation, I handwash these to keep them in top shape. They are as stunning as the day I bought them, and I highly recommend them. I scoured the internet for a set that was gold and shaped like bamboo. They were hard to come by, and also quite expensive when I did find them. This set is affordable and worth the price!
This shoe rack is a great solution for a tight space! I purchased it recently because the pile of shoes on my kitchen floor was getting to me, and I didn’t have room for a full sized shoe rack. I love that this piece is a neutral white color (it blends into my walls) and it fits in the tiny space next to my door. I will say, it’s not the sturdiest piece I’ve ever owned. I think if you have kids that might be rough around it it’s not the best solution. But my daughter Alexa is not allowed to roam our kitchen, so this piece works for me.
If you are looking for an attractive, sturdy, and affordable shoe rack, this piece is it! I originally purchased this for my then-boyfriend’s bachelor pad to resolve the pile of shoes that was accumulating by his door. This piece holds so many shoes! We had the piece for about four years and used it in our current home for a while. Recently, I had to sell it after we rearranged our furniture and it no longer fits the space. But the piece looked just as great as the day I bought it, and I was able to sell it for the same price I paid for it. I highly recommend this item! If I had the room for it, I would buy it again.
I love a good coffee table book, and this one is really beautiful and inspiring! This book showcases a variety of things that you could collect, from silver to porcelain to lace. There are plenty of gorgeous photos of traditional style interiors for inspiration.
This oversized coffee table book by designer and collector John Phifer Mars highlights the interiors of different collectors. If you are a collector, it’s a fun way to get ideas for how to display your collection. I always have so much fun perusing this book! It features traditional style homes with collections of busts, silver, Imari porcelain, and more.
