DIY Framed Fabric (Perfect for Gallery Wall)

By , December 17, 2024

When hanging artwork or creating a gallery wall, sometimes you need to get creative about what you display in those frames. You can select many types of art, from a vintage oil painting to a modern print. To finish off a pretty vignette of frames in our bedroom, I opted to frame a piece of black toile printed fabric for this DIY framed fabric project.

Toile is a beautiful option if you want to create a DIY framed fabric project, because it portrays an entire scene, which creates a lot of interest. If you’re interested in copying this project precisely, you can shop black toile fabric on Etsy. But you can truly frame any kind of fabric that you want, from classic florals to funky abstract patterns.

Follow this simple tutorial to fill your own frame with a pretty fabric! I used a vintage frame that I found at the thrift store. It didn’t have any glass, which was perfect for this type of project.

Directions for DIY Framed Fabric

DIY Framed Fabric Step One: Cutting the Board to Size

Start by cutting your piece of foam board to the right size for your frame using a razor blade or exacto knife. I used the artwork that was previously displayed as a guide.

Wrapping Fabric Around White Board

Use scissors to cut your fabric to be at least a half inch wider than the foam board on all sides. You need to be able to wrap the fabric around the back of the board.

Gluing Fabric Around White Board

Wrap the fabric around the board and use hot glue to attach the ends to the back of the board.

Framing Toile Fabric

Pop the board into your frame and hold in place with tape. I used painter’s tape because it was all I had, but masking tape will also do the trick.

Collage of Frames on Green Wall

Hang the frame in place and enjoy! What type of fabric would you like to frame?
