Ever since becoming a stay-at-home mom, I’ve really taken an interest in baking. Prior to motherhood, I was always more interested in cooking. It felt easier and I didn’t have to be as precise as you need to be with baking. But these days, when I’m stuck in the house and in need of something productive to do, I turn to my Pinterest board for easy baking recipes to try out.
Full disclosure: for a while I was into sourdough. I had a starter, which I stored in the fridge and fed once a week. Every week I baked a loaf of sourdough sandwich bread for my husband, and I made soft pretzels, muffins, and crackers with my discard. But alas, my starter recently developed what looked like mold, so I deemed it a failure and tossed it out. I have yet to start a new one.
All that to say, while sourdough is a worthy endeavor, these recipes that I am sharing are very beginner friendly. They are perfect for the novice baker who wants to fill their home with tasty treats. These are the recipes that only take me a short amount of time to whip up while I’m keeping an eye on my active daughter. I hope you’ll enjoy making them as much as I do!
When I was dating my husband, one of my little tricks was to always have banana bread baking when he came to visit. That way the house smelled divine, and he got to have a special treat. Banana bread is something I made even when I wasn’t into baking, and it’s honestly just so easy.
A little trick: this recipe calls for 2-3 bananas, but I always use four. It makes the resulting bread come out moist and gooey, which is just how I like it.
My husband told me that these are the best cookies he’s ever eaten. I’ve also gotten lots of compliments on these when I make them for church events. I love everything about the texture and consistency of these yummy cookies. The recipe is for plain oatmeal cookies, but I add about a cup of chocolate chips to the recipe.
This super simple recipe has only a few ingredients and comes out perfectly! If you love baking bread but don’t want the trouble of maintaining a sourdough starter (or don’t have the patience for lots of rise time or stretch and folds), this recipe is for you.
I often make this bread for my husband to make sandwiches with for work, but it’s also a great side dish with dinner. One of the options the recipe suggests is to put some ice cubes on a tray in the bottom of the oven. The steam helps the outside of the bread to get crispy. I recommend this extra step!
This recipe is one of my absolute favorites. Everything comes together in under an hour because there’s only 15 minutes of rise time. It’s so easy to whip these up in the morning if I need them to go with burgers or BBQ pulled chicken for dinner. They also make great sandwiches with some lunch meat and deli cheese. As a bonus, the dough is such a satisfying texture and so fun to work with.
I absolutely love pulling together a batch of these simple biscuits for breakfast. I serve them with apple butter from a local farm stand, but they pair well with any jelly or butter that you choose. Be careful not to overwork the dough. I did that once and they weren’t as fluffy.
My sister recently got married, and we hosted a tea party bridal shower. Naturally, I had to craft some homemade scones for the occasion. This recipe was the first one I tried when I was testing recipes, and I loved it so much that I didn’t test anything else. They truly taste like banana bread in scone form. I got a lot of compliments on this one!
Just a tip – if you’re serving this at a party, you may want to double the recipe for the glaze. This ensures that people can serve themselves a generous amount if they want to.
My husband loves the oatmeal cookies, but these brownie cookies are my personal favorite. They come out so big and beautiful, they remind me of getting a cookie from Panera or a nice bakery. If you are serving these at a party, a good added touch would be a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
Which one of these easy baking recipes are you interested in trying? If you do test them out, which was your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
