I’ve been enjoying my blood orange margaritas lately, but I also made a recent resolution to skip the alcohol. I still had a stash of blood oranges on hand, so I decided to get creative and come up with a tasty blood orange mocktail.
The ingredient that really makes the drink come to life is vanilla extract. It adds a level of complexity that makes this taste less like juice and more like a cocktail. You only need a quarter teaspoon to get just the right amount of flavor!
Another ingredient that I included in this drink is aquafaba – the juice leftover in a can of chickpeas. You don’t want to add too much, because you’re not adding it for flavor. The real reason I included this ingredient is to give the beverage a nice layer of foam on top. This is the kind of foam you would find on something like a whiskey sour, and it helps the drink feel more substantial.
Whether you’re pregnant or just looking to enjoy a tasty nonalcoholic drink, this mocktail tastes absolutely delicious. I found it so refreshing – and my 18-month old daughter liked it so much that she finished my drink for me. She’s always begging to try my cocktails, and this time I made something she was actually allowed to have.
So without further ado, let’s make this mocktail!
