- Heat your water using your preferred method. I did a tea kettle, but you can heat yours in the microwave.
- Combine whiskey, honey, lemon juice, and hot water in your favorite mug. Stir well and garnish with a lemon wedge.
As a whiskey lover, a hot toddy is an obvious choice for a warm winter drink. The problems is that there are so many hot toddy recipes out there, with all different ingredients. Finding the perfect combination took a little experimentation to come to my perfect hot toddy recipe. After trying out lots of options, this simple version is definitely my favorite way to craft this drink.
In creating this recipe, I did a lot of experimentation, and I tried recipes that I found online. Many of these recipes involved lots of spices, such as cinnamon. This sounded great in theory, but when I actually tried these spice-filled recipes, I truly didn’t like them! The spices added too much flavor and I just wasn’t a big fan of them.
It turns out that my perfect hot toddy is super simple: lemon, honey, water, and of course, whiskey. If you like super spiced hot toddies, this may not be for you. But if you truly enjoy the flavor of a good whiskey and want to savor that flavor, this may be your perfect recipe.
Hot toddies are said to be of great help if you are trying to rid yourself of a cold or illness. I’m not sure of the truth of this, but they do really help clear the sinuses when I have a cold. Try it for yourself and see what you think: do they really help, or is that an old wives tale?
Without further ado, here is the classic recipe that I love to sip in the cold weather.
