Skin Care Products for Acne Prone Skin: 6 Products to Try

By , May 9, 2025

Taking care of your skin is important. As someone who has wrestled with severe acne, I’m always on the lookout for skin care products for acne prone skin. To be perfectly honest, I am no skin care expert. But I have found some great products over the years that really work well for me.

Skin Care Products for Acne Prone Skin: Why I Don’t Wear Makeup Often

One of the best things I do for my skin is that I don’t wear makeup every day. I’ve noticed a significant improvement in the clarity and texture of my skin since I quit wearing makeup frequently. This actually started because of the pandemic. I was no longer going to the office, and decided to leave my face bare, and I’ve never looked back. I do wear makeup for special occasions and for church. But it’s no longer something I feel I need every day.

Skin Care Products for Acne Prone Skin: My Skincare Needs

My skin care routine is simple. My biggest skin woes that I have struggled with are clogged pores on my nose and cystic acne. These skin care habits have helped me to cope with both of these issues effectively. Something I don’t do much of is anti-aging skincare, though I’d like to change that in the near future. My focus is and has always been on maintaining clear skin.

If you have struggled with acne, I hope my honest reviews and recommendations can assist you in your skincare journey.

Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Skin Clearing Facial Wash

Skin Care Products for Acne: Bottle of Face wash

[Tea Tree Facial Wash]

This may be controversial, but I don’t wash my face every day. I’ve found my skin breaks out when I over wash. I typically use this tea tree oil face wash only on days that I wear makeup, so maybe 2-3 times a week. It helps me get everything off of my face and keeps it clear. I’ve always loved using tea tree oil on my face. I used to put it in a spray bottle with some jojoba oil and witch hazel and use it as a moisturizer.

Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray

Spray bottle moisturizer

[Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray]

I like a light moisturizer for my skin, especially in the winter when my skin tends to dry out. This spray is refreshing and gives just the right amount of moisture for my skin type. I use it both at night and in the morning. It is so lightweight that it sits really well under makeup too.

Biore Pore Strips

Biore Pore Strips

[Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips]

For the clogged pores on my nose and chin, I love Biore pore strips. They gently clear them out without any irritation. I use these maybe once a week. If I don’t buy the kind that comes with chin strips, I use an extra nose strip on my chin. You can also use them on your forehead if you need to.

Milk Thistle

Skin Care Products for Acne: Milk Thistle

[Milk Thistle Supplement]

This is not something that I use currently, but it’s worth mentioning because it helped me overcome my battle with cystic acne. I worked at a restaurant in my 20s, and during that time I developed terrible acne on my jawline. I’m not sure whether it was from stress or from something in the kitchen, but nothing seemed to help. Finally, I stumbled upon a solution: milk thistle. I took this supplement until my skin cleared up, and then I stopped taking it after leaving the restaurant world.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Tinted Moisturizer and Foundation

Tarte Foundation

[Tarte Amazonian Clay 16-Hour Full Coverage Foundation]

I don’t always wear makeup, but when I do I love Tarte. Their tinted moisturizer and foundation don’t make me break out, and I love the texture and coverage. Their Amazonian clay foundation is luxurious, and the tinted moisturizer provides a nice light coverage. The SPF is an added bonus. Wearing something with SPF is a great way to care for your skin.

Face Silk Makeup Remover Pads

Skin Care Products for Acne: Makeup Remover Pads

[Shop Similar Makeup Remover Pads]

These are a recent discovery, and I’m obsessed. I used to clean off my makeup with makeup remover wipes, but I wasn’t a fan of the ingredients in those wipes. I would always give my face a good wash afterward to remove the residue. But these makeup remover pads remove my makeup even more quickly and completely with just water. I then wash the makeup off of the pads with a bit of soap and water. I couldn’t find the exact ones that I use online, so I linked a great similar product above.

Skin Care Products for Acne Prone Skin: Caring for Your Skin

Again, I’m not a skin care expert. I’m just sharing the products I’ve discovered that have worked well for my skin. I hope that this post is helpful and perhaps helps you discover new skin care products for acne prone skin.
