Lavender has always been a favorite scent of mine! It has long been my dream to grow my own lavender and use it to create lavender syrup and all manner of lavender goodies. For now, I settle for a small patch of it in a raised container on my deck. If you grow lavender, or simply love the smell, you may wonder what to do with dried lavender.
There are really endless things you can do with lavender, but in this post I’m sticking to sharing my favorites that I have actually tested myself. Notably absent from this list is lavender soap and body products. I only wanted to make recommendations about things I have knowledge about!
I hope this post inspires you to find clever ways to use your lavender, whether from your own garden or purchased elsewhere.
In the spirit of keeping it simple, you can allow your lavender to dry out and display it in a pretty vase. I usually do this when I first purchase the lavender and then I find other uses for it after I tire of the display.
Lavender tea has many benefits, and it’s so easy to make! You’ll need culinary grade lavender – I like to buy mine from a local lavender farm, and you can order culinary lavender from them online. I followed this lavender tea recipe and it produced good results! Keep in mind that the flavor of the lavender will be strong, and you may want some add-ons to tone it down a bit. I added some lemon juice and sugar to mine!
This is one of my favorite things to do with lavender! I enjoy making a sweet lavender infused simple syrup to make lavender lemonade or lavender cocktails. Again, just make sure you are using culinary grade lavender.
Lavender sachets are a simple sewing project that makes great use of your fabric scraps. It’s essentially the same as making a mini pillow and filling it with dried lavender instead of stuffing. Here’s a lavender sachet tutorial you can try. I filled mine with dried lavender and eucalyptus for a heavenly scent. You can stash these in your drawers or closet for a fresh scent.
I love making potpourri with dried lavender! I like to clip the purple floral parts of the dried lavender off of the stem and place them in a bowl or basket. Display your basket in a part of your home that you want smelling beautiful!
My favorite treat that I have made with lavender is a lavender lemon tart. The recipe came from my Magnolia Table cookbook, and it is delicious! Again – don’t forget to use culinary grade lavender. Another lavender treat I have recently tried is this lavender tea bread. It turned out delicious!
Which of these lavender uses have you tried out? Let me know in the comments!
