It’s getting ever closer to THAT time of year – a time for beautiful home décor, cozy sweaters, wrapped gifts, and Christmas cheer. Every year, I enjoy crafting easy DIY Christmas ornaments to adorn my Christmas tree. I love designing ornaments that are simple to put together yet still have an impact in my decorating.
Hobby Lobby is one of my favorite places to shop for craft supplies and seasonal décor. Most of the supplies for this craft come from Hobby Lobby. Follow along for a simple craft that you will enjoy putting together!
Start by opening the frames from the back. You can toss the clear film and the paper backing, but keep the thick circle that fits inside of the frame.
Before spray painting, I removed all my strings to avoid getting gold paint on them. I replace them later one with fresh string. You can skip doing this if you don’t mind getting some paint on the strings.
Lay out all your circles on a piece of newspaper and spray evenly with gold paint. I only needed one coat, but you can do a second coat if you need more coverage.
While the paint is drying, grab your scrap fabric and your circular inserts. Using scissors, cut the fabric into a circle the same size as the insert.
Heat up your hot glue gun. Drizzle glue all over the circle and place your fabric on top, gluing it to the circle.
When the frames are dry, place the fabric covered circles back inside. If you removed the string, you can go ahead and replace the strings with thin ribbon or string for hanging.
Voila! You now have some gorgeous, simple Christmas ornaments to add to your Christmas tree.
You can use whatever fabric you like for these ornaments! Last year, I made a few of these in a red toile pattern, which I felt was subtly Christmassy. I attached these to gift baskets that I gave my friends, but I have a few left over.
For the new ornaments I created this year, I used some leopard print fabric that I had on hand. You can opt for a more festive fabric if that’s the look you are going for. I tend to decorate in a very non-traditional color palette, so the leopard print really works for me on these easy DIY Christmas ornaments.
I always decorate for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving. When do you start decorating for Christmas? Let me know in the comments!
