My mom has a pear tree in her yard, so around this time every year we have a surplus of fresh pears. It’s always a challenge finding delicious ways to put them to good use! This year, I decided to keep it simple and make a stovetop pear cobbler. Rather than a crust, I enjoyed these pears with a simple butter and brown sugar sauce and a scoop of ice cream. It was such a satisfying after-dinner treat!
Getting Pears for Pear Cobbler
The pear tree in my mom’s yard grows really tall. In order for us to get some pears, my husband climbed on top of a huge ladder and was shaking pears down from the highest branches. It was actually a little nerve wracking watching him do it, but we ended up with a small harvest of fresh pears.
Letting Pears Get Ripe
Ripe pears are a little bit soft when you hold them. This indicates they are ready to eat! If your pears are hard to the touch, they aren’t ready yet. You can speed up this process by storing your pears in a paper bag. Check them daily until they start to feel soft enough to enjoy! My pears were not ready right off of the tree, so I had to store them in a paper bag for a few days before I was able to start this recipe.

The ingredients for this recipe are simple. You need butter, brown sugar, a dash of cinnamon, and about four pears. If you like, you can add vanilla ice cream for a sweet topping. This comes together so quickly and easily, and it’s so sweet and yummy.
