I’ve shared a day in my life before – where I showed you what a typical day looks like for me. Being a stay-at-home mom is sweet and sometimes challenging. My days are usually filled to the brim with chores, DIY projects, sweet moments with my daughter, crying and tantrums, and the occasional nap.
I feel like my routine as a mama is constantly evolving as my child grows. While some rituals have stood the test of time, others have fallen away and new ones have taken their place. I think that’s what can be so challenging about being a mom. You feel like you have a routine figured out, and then just like that, it changes.
I decided to do another “being a stay-at-home mom” post because so much has changed in such a short time. Also, I really enjoyed logging my day and reflecting on all of the things that my daughter and I did together. I hope this post inspires you, encourages you, and interests you!
I woke up a bit earlier than I usually do, and I decided to run with it. I made a homemade latte and then spent some time writing social media posts.
My daughter, Alexa (I call her Lexi) woke up. I changed her diaper and brushed her teeth.
Lexi requested rice for breakfast and proceeded to eat a bowl of leftover rice (this is unusual – we normally have a granola bar and a smoothie for breakfast). I quickly journaled about our weekend while she ate.
I started a load of laundry and lined up a few clothes baskets for the next couple of loads.
I’m supposed to do this every other day to keep my back from getting misaligned. I skipped at least one day, so I decided to get a start on this early. Lexi jumped on me while I was working out and copied my yoga ball exercises with her little rubber ball.
I watered my herb garden and my zucchini. Lexi came out with me and got to hold the zucchini I harvested. She enjoys helping in the garden! I water the herbs once a day in the summer and the zucchini twice daily to keep it hydrated.
I got Lexi out of her pjs and ready for the day.
I worked on designing my graphics for social media while Lexi played in the spare room and tried on my clothes.
I had four old brown bananas on hand, so I decided to make banana bread. Lexi helped me stir the batter after each ingredient was added! After popping the bread in the oven, I cleaned the kitchen from my morning.
I always plan my meals for the next week and then create a grocery list based on that plan. I tackled that chore, checking my fridge and pantry for items that needed to get used up.
I’m obsessed with these Crayola Color Wonder Mess-Free Markers that only draw on special paper. They have saved my clothes, Lexi’s clothes, and my furniture and walls from countless catastrophes. I set Alexa up with her markers and a Bluey coloring page.
I removed the bread from oven, then placed a bag of frozen chicken thighs in a bowl of cold water to thaw. Then I cleaned out my fridge, tossing old food and getting the containers ready for the dishwasher.
I grabbed a piece of fresh banana bread and sat on the couch to relax. Lexi came over with a huge stack of books that she wanted to read. We proceeded to tackle them together. She loves reading and would probably go through the entire bookshelf if I let her. Once we finished, Lexi started trying to feed banana bread to her dolly.
It’s in the mid-80s, so it’s a bit hot for a walk, but not as hot as it’s been lately. I set up a portable fan in Alexa’s stroller to help her stay cool, and we enjoy a neighborhood stroll.
By the time I arrived home, Lexi had fallen asleep in her stroller. I wheeled the stroller into the living room and then headed to the computer to work on my email newsletter.
I placed the thawed chicken thighs in the crockpot to make pulled chicken. I was out of barbeque sauce, which is what I normally use, so I drizzled honey and hot sauce instead. I usually cook pulled chicken on low for about four to five hours.
I started eating a tuna sandwich. In the middle of this, Lexi woke up asking to, “watch Bluey, big bed.” This means she wants to lay in my bed with me and watch Bluey, something we often do in the afternoons.
I cut her some cheese cubes and we went to our bed and enjoyed her favorite afternoon ritual. When the credits rolled for each episode, she would cry, “More Blueys! More Blueys!”
My mom and sister stopped by to drop off butter I needed for a recipe, and they ended up reading two books to Lexi. After about twenty minutes, they left and we watched more Bluey.
I served Lexi tuna fish and crackers for lunch. She ate all of the tuna but left most of the crackers behind.
I made a batch of my favorite cookie: lemon thumbprint. I tried a new recipe today, which is actually the third or fourth one I have tried. Previous recipes I had problems with the dough spreading too much or being too dry. This lemon thumbprint cookie recipe turned out perfect. I taste tested them with Lexi, who was only interested in the lemon curd and didn’t want the cookie.
I dropped some cookies off at a friend’s and then at my mom’s. I also left Lexi at my mom’s house for an hour so I could get some work done. I came home and edited photos for the blog and tackled an issue with my website that needed to be resolved. Then I worked on refining a post I’m writing about using vintage doilies for crafts.
Before heading back to pick up Lexi, I shredded the crockpot chicken with two forks and added some flour to thicken the sauce. Then I set the crockpot to warm.
I went to pick Lexi up, but I stayed for a short visit with my family.
I spooned my pulled chicken onto a homemade sandwich roll I made yesterday. I tried to give Lexi some chicken, but she was full from eating fruit at my mom’s.
My husband Juan sat down with Alexa to read her a book while I checked social media on my phone and relaxed.
We took a family drive and pick up nuggets and fries for Lexi’s dinner. We went to Kiwi Yogurt for a sweet treat.
We arrived back home and relaxed for a bit on the couch together watching TV.
I shower Lexi daily. I’ve found that the shower is quicker than a bath, and I can usually get her in and out in about five minutes.
We watched a low stimulation tv show (usually Little Bear) and lay in bed cuddling together as a family. This is my favorite time of day. Lexi does not cuddle with me when we watch Bluey, but she will cuddle with me at night.
At 9:15pm, Juan took Lexi to her room, told her bedtime stories and sang her to sleep while I caught up on some YouTube videos.
I showered, brushed my teeth, and got ready for bed. Often, I stay up to get my work done on the blog, but I didn’t need to do this today because of how much I accomplished during the day.
I hope this post helps you see what it is like being a stay-at-home mom. I believe that having hobbies like cooking, baking, and blogging really help me to feel productive and give me goals to work toward.
