Something I have been struggling with lately is making room for quiet time with God.
Sometimes I can wake up early, before my kids, and spend time in prayer. But often, my daughter is in my bed with me and wakes up when I do.
At night before bed, I am often taking an online course or spending a few precious moments with my husband.
Lately, I’ve found that the best way to have quiet time with God is to play my favorite worship music while I’m with my kids and worship through the day. I also pray when God puts things on my heart to pray.
I’ve been wondering if what I’m doing is enough. The other day, at an unexpected moment, God brought me clarity about how I can be enjoying intimacy with him in this season.
Yesterday I was sitting on the couch holding my three-month-old son and watching my two-year-old daughter ride her bike out the window with my husband helping her.

I started to pray for their protection. During this prayer, I felt God’s presence intensely and I began to worship him. I felt him speak to my heart.
He told me that my relationship with him in this season would be lived out in front of my children. When I worship in front of them, pray out loud throughout my day, and rely on God for his help, it will impact them.
If you are like me and finding that your quiet time with God looks different since having children, here are some points to ponder.
I’m far from the perfect mom, but I believe God handpicked me to be the mama to my two kids. He knows that I need them and they need me.
If you are a mama, God chose you for your children. He designed you to perfectly meet their needs. Take your calling seriously and ask God how you can uniquely shape your children for his glory.
Right now, the only way that I can enjoy time with God is to have it with my children around. When I show them what my intimacy with God looks like, I hope it teaches them to crave that for themselves.
Show them what it means to pray, to worship, to experience the presence of God. Don’t doubt the power that this can have in their lives!
Being a mother is important kingdom work. Don’t ever underestimate the power of raising children for God’s kingdom! You may not have as much time to devote to other ministries in this season – but the one that you are in is every bit as important as things you can do at church.
Don’t feel bad if your time with God looks different because you have kids. Just do your best to find time when you can, and be sure to live out your walk for your children to learn from you. Read to them from the Bible, sing worship songs with them, and pray for and with them. In this season, things are going to look different – and there’s nothing wrong with that.
